How to Delete a Card on Trello: Step-by-Step Guide

If you no longer need the information on a card of your Trello board and want to delete it, note that deleting a Trello card is permanent. That is why Trello insists on archiving the cards first so that you can retrieve them later if you need them.

To delete a Trello card, click on the card, Select “Archive,” and a new “Delete” option will appear. Click “Delete” to permanently remove the card.

Note: The “delete” option only appears once you’ve archived the card first, This makes sure that you don’t delete a card permanently by accident.

Delete card on Trello: step by step

Below is a detailed step-by-step guide on how to Delete a Card on Trello:

Step 1: Open Your Trello Board

First, log in to your Trello account and navigate to the board where the card you want to delete is. After that, find the list that contains the card you want to remove.

Step 2: Open the Card

Click on the card that you want to delete. This will open the card and display its details, including descriptions, attachments, and other relevant information.

Step 3: Archive the card

Scroll down to find the “Archive” option. While this is not a deletion action, archiving can be helpful if you’re unsure about permanently deleting the card. Archiving removes the card from your board but allows you to retrieve it later if needed.

Trello also lets you archive cards by using keyboard shortcuts. Simply hover over the card and click “C” on your keyboard. This will send your card to the archived item list.

If you prefer to delete the card completely and permanently, select “Delete.”

Step 4: Confirm Deletion

When you select the Delete option, Trello will prompt you to confirm the deletion. This step makes sure that you don’t delete a card accidentally.

If you’re sure you want to delete the card, click Delete again to confirm.

Step 5: The Card Is Permanently Deleted

Once you confirm, the card will be permanently deleted from your Trello board. This action is irreversible, so make sure to double-check that you no longer need the card’s information.

Unarchiving cards in Trello

If you want to unarchive the cards. Go to the boards menu in the top right corner, the board menu button looks like this (…); click on “Archived items,” then click on “send to board option” below the card you want to unarchive.

From this section you can also choose delete a Trello list or unarchive them by simply clicking on “Switch to list” to find the archived lists.

1. Install the Power-Up: Go to the Power-Ups menu on your Trello board and search for Card Delete. Click Add to install it.
2. Enable the Power-Up: Once installed, enable the Power-Up for your board.
3. Delete a Card: Open the card you wish to delete. After enabling the Power-Up, you will see a “Delete” button directly on the card menu. Click it to permanently remove the card in just two clicks.

Note that the Card Delete Power-Up can only be used on one board at a time.

Important Notes About Deleting Cards on Trello

• Irreversible Action: As mentioned earlier, deleting a Trello card is permanent. Unlike archiving, once a card is deleted, there is no way to recover it. Ensure that you have backed up any critical information before proceeding.
• Board Permissions: In team boards, users with the appropriate permissions (typically administrators or board owners) can delete cards. If you’re not the board admin, you may not have permission to delete a card, but you can still archive it.
• Deleting Cards in Bulk: If you want to delete multiple cards at once, Trello doesn’t offer a bulk delete feature natively. However, you can use Power-Ups or integrations like Trello’s Bulk Actions to delete multiple cards at once.
